Ms. Pérez-Caballero has 10 years of experience representing a wide range of clients before state and federal courts, and in administrative proceedings. Her practice encompasses the litigation of complex contractual claims, insurance coverage disputes, construction claims, bid protests, defamation suits, and foreclosure proceedings. In that capacity, Ms. Pérez-Caballero has favorably settled multi-million-dollar disputes and garnered ample experience in state appellate practice. She also advises clients on contract negotiations, compliance matters involving public contracts, and the laws and regulations applicable to the power generation industry. In an appellate case, Ms. Pérez-Caballero moved the Court to uphold the dismissal of the defamation complaint that a lobbyist accused of domestic violence filed against her clients, a newspaper and one of its journalists, who had reported the matter. To that end, Ms. Pérez-Caballero effectively argued that the lobbyist was a public figure and that the article in question was not published with actual malice, but rather, was protected under the fair and accurate reporting doctrine. In 2 other appellate cases where she represented the defendant insurance carrier, Ms. Pérez-Caballero successfully blocked the discovery of information regarding her client’s underwriting practices, reinsurance, and reserves, by arguing that it was irrelevant to the allegations raised in the complaint. See ELA v. MAPFRE, KLCE202300186 (TA 2023); Consejo de Titulares v. MAPFRE, KLCE202100639 (TA 2021). In another appellate case, Ms. Pérez-Caballero obtained judgment in favor of her clients, a sea transport company and its insurer, who had been sued by a circus operator over the destruction of a trailer whilst it was unloaded at port. In so doing, Ms. Pérez-Caballero convinced the Court that the operator had transferred all rights related to the lost property to a third party, and thus did not have a valid cause of action regarding that property. See Suárez Villaseñor v. Ayala Colón, KLAN201701384 (TA 2017). Ms. Pérez-Caballero is also well-versed in settlement negotiations. In a case that involved the alleged breach of a construction contract and included a claim for field and home office overhead and construction taxes, she was able to obtain a multimillion settlement in favor of the construction company she represented. See Caribe General Constructors, Inc. v. The Hanover Insurance Company, 16-2759 (PAD) (D.P.R. 2018). Ms. Pérez-Caballero is a Junior Partner at SCVR. She joined the firm in 2017, after working at a full-service law firm where she represented financial institutions in lending transactions and worked extensively on matters related to the telecommunications industry. Previously, she worked for the Extraordinary Remedies and Public Policy Division of the Puerto Rico Department of Justice, representing government agencies in injunction hearings regarding the constitutionality of state laws, medical insurance regulations and antitrust laws and regulations.

La Lcda. Pérez-Caballero cuenta con 10 años de experiencia representando a una amplia gama de clientes ante tribunales estatales y federales, y en procedimientos administrativos. Su práctica abarca el litigio de reclamaciones contractuales complejas, controversias de cubierta de seguros, reclamaciones de construcción, impugnaciones de subastas (bid protests), demandas por difamación y procedimientos de ejecución de hipoteca. En esa capacidad, la Lcda. Pérez-Caballero ha logrado transacciones favorables en controversias multimillonarias y ha acumulado amplia experiencia en la práctica apelativa estatal. También asesora a clientes en negociaciones de contratos, asuntos de cumplimiento relacionados con contratos gubernamentales, y las leyes y reglamentos aplicables a la industria de generación de energía. En un caso apelativo, la Lcda. Pérez-Caballero solicitó al Tribunal que confirmara la desestimación de la demanda por difamación presentada por un cabildero acusado de violencia doméstica contra sus clientes, un periódico y uno de sus periodistas, quienes habían reportado el asunto. Para ello, la Lcda. Pérez-Caballero argumentó eficazmente que el cabildero era una figura pública y que el artículo en cuestión no fue publicado con malicia real, sino que estaba protegido bajo la doctrina del reportaje justo y fiel (fair and accurate reporting). Véase Domenech Fernández v. Serrano, KLAN202100156 (TA 2018). En otros 2 casos apelativos en los que representó a la aseguradora demandada, la Lcda. Pérez-Caballero logró bloquear exitosamente el descubrimiento de información sobre las prácticas de suscripción, el reaseguro y las reservas de su cliente, al argumentar que dicha información era irrelevante a las alegaciones planteadas en la demanda. Véanse ELA v. MAPFRE, KLCE202300186 (TA 2023); Consejo de Titulares v. MAPFRE, KLCE202100639 (TA 2021). En otro caso apelativo, la Lcda. Pérez-Caballero obtuvo sentencia a favor de sus clientes, una compañía de transporte marítimo y su aseguradora, quienes habían sido demandados por un operador de circo por la destrucción de un remolque mientras era descargado en el puerto. Para ello, la Lcda. Pérez-Caballero convenció al Tribunal de que el operador había transferido todos los derechos relacionados con la propiedad perdida a un tercero, por lo que no tenía una causa de acción válida respecto a dicha propiedad. Véase Suárez Villaseñor v. Ayala Colón, KLAN201701384 (TA 2017). La Lcda. Pérez-Caballero también domina las negociaciones de transacción. En un caso que involucraba un alegado incumplimiento de contrato de construcción e incluía una reclamación por gastos generales de campo y de oficina central, así como contribuciones de construcción, logró obtener una transacción multimillonaria a favor de la compañía constructora que representaba. Se incorporó a la firma en el 2017, luego de trabajar en un bufete de servicio integral donde representó a instituciones financieras en transacciones de préstamo y trabajó extensamente en asuntos relacionados con la industria de las telecomunicaciones. Anteriormente, trabajó para la División de Remedios Extraordinarios y Política Pública del Departamento de Justicia de Puerto Rico, representando a agencias gubernamentales en vistas de interdicto sobre la constitucionalidad de leyes estatales, reglamentos de seguros médicos y leyes y reglamentos antimonopolio.
